Mycenaean Phi-Idol

LH III A, 14th century BC.

 

Light, sand-colored clay with alternating red-brown painting. Highly stylized depiction of a female deity in a floor-length robe with folds on the upper body. The arms are crossed on the upper body in a kind of prayer gesture, making the figure resemble the Greek letter Phi.

Dimension: height: 11,2 cm, width: 4,4 cm, depth: 3,2 cm

Condition: Intact and in excellent condition with a very fresh surface. In the central area on the front and back whitish sinter deposit. The object is accompanied by a TL test.

Provenance: Private collection, N. L., Antwerp, Belgium, since the 1960s / 1970s.
