Attic black figure Droop Cup

Athens, 550-540 BC.

 

Class of Attic little master cups named after the archaeologist John Percival Droop. Basin on high stemmed foot with stepped concave lip. On the wall a lotus bud frieze. Interior covered with glossy black varnish, a small clay-ground medallion in the center.

 

Dimension: height 8,5 cm, diameter 16,9 cm, width 22,3 cm.

Condition: Carefully assembled from several fragments, but complete.

Provenance: German private collection, acquired in 1994 in the German Art Trade. Ex collection Rizzino, Switzerland.
