Corinthian Aryballos

Late Corinthian, 2nd quarter 6th century BC.

 

Light, sand-colored clay with dark brown varnish painting. Spherical body on a flat base ring. Short, cylindrical neck with a wide muzzle plate, from which a strap handle leads to the shoulder. The body divided into vertical fields by double incised lines, with three circumferential lines above and below. Tongue pattern on the shoulder.

Dimension: height: 10,6 cm, diameter: 10 cm,

Condition: Apart from a few tiny limestone chips on the surface, intact and beautifully preserved.

Provenance: German private collection, acquired 1978 in the Art Trade.
