Corinthian Aryballos

late 7th century BC

 

Light, sand-colored clay with manganese-black painting. On the front a large quatrefoil motif with a stylized cicada on each side, the bodies filled by lattice hatching. On the mouth plate a rosette. Cf. Martin Boß et al, selection catalog of the Erlangen Collection of Classical Antiquities, Erlangen and Jena 2002, p. 26/27, Inv. I 170a.

 

Dimension: Height 7,1 cm, diameter 6,8 cm

Condition: Except for a tiny chip at the lower edge of the muzzle plate intact and very nicely preserved. With TL certificate of the Kotalla Laboratory.

Provenance: German private collection, acquired in 2001 in the German art trade, ex collection Untiedt.
