Western Greek Gnathia-Kantharos

Apulia, late 4th century BC


Vessel based on specimen from metal with vertically ribbed wall on stepped foot. Two double handles with Heracles knot in the bend. Surface covered with black glaze throughout, painting in white and ocher yellow color on it. On the front a bird between branches, on the back garland of leaves.


Dimension: height: 14,1 cm, diameter: 12,3 cm, width: 18 cm

Condition: Except for a small restoration on a knot intact and very nicely preserved.

Provenance:  German private collection, acqiured in the 1970s in the German Art Trade.
