Boeotian Kantharos
circa 450 BC.
The inside and outside completely covered with a black glaze. Foot ring and underside are clay coloured. Two loop-like raised band handles run from the lower to the upper edge of the concave wall. The kantharos was considered an attribute of the god Dionysus and was closely associated with his cult.
Dimension: height: 11.5 cm, diameter: 11 cm, width: 16.1 cm
Condition: Glued break in one handle, otherwise intact and completely preserved with a shiny surface.
Provenance: Private collection R. W., Munich, acquired by the father in the South German Art Trade in the mid-20th century.
