Roman province Africa proconsularis, 4th century A.D.

 

Spherical segment-shaped bowl made of Terra Sigillata Chiara with semi-gloss surface. Inside, two jumping bears formed in a separate mold and applied. The depiction refers to the animal fights in the amphitheater and belongs to a popular genre of relief images on Terra Sigillata vessels.

 

Dimension: diameter: 19 cm, height: 4,5 cm

Condition: Intact and in excellent condition.

Provenance: Private collection A. B., London, since the early 1990s.
